Review laboratory suggestions and rule alerts

Available to

Laboratory reviewers.

Every order that is checked becomes a case on the review worklist. A case holds the rule findings, the model suggestions if the facility uses them, the facts that were checked and the analyses that ran.

Review a case

  1. Open Laboratory → Intelligence → Review worklist. Use the filters Waiting for a reviewer, Held back, High risk and Shadow mode to find your cases.
  2. Open a case. The status bar shows where it stands: Received, Rules evaluated, Waiting for the model, Waiting for a reviewer, Reviewed.
  3. On Rule findings (deterministic) read each alert and select Acknowledge once you have dealt with it.
  4. On Model suggestions read the suggestion and select Review.
  5. Choose a Decision: Accept, Accept with changes, Reject or Defer. Add a Comment; a reason is needed to modify, reject or defer.
  6. Tick Put the approved text on the signed report to print the accepted text as a comment on the signed laboratory report, with its author and source. Tick Offer to the governed feedback dataset only if you want it considered for the dataset.
  7. Select Record decision. The case becomes Reviewed when every suggestion is decided.

Rule alerts and suggestions also have their own lists under Intelligence: Rule alerts, Suggestions to review, Comments on reports (what was printed on a signed report, and whether it was later withdrawn) and Reviewer decisions (every decision with its reviewer and time).

Rule alerts: critical, delta, specimen age and reflex suggestions.

Good to know

  • When a result is amended, the old case is superseded, a new case opens and any comment printed on the report for the old result is withdrawn.
  • A reflex suggestion, such as a follow-up test, is only a recommendation until the treating clinician authorises it.
  • Reviewing a suggestion never changes a result or releases a report.
