Manage donors and donations

Available to

Blood bank technologists and supervisors.

A donation passes through screening, collection, testing and release before its units can be used. Each step has a button, and a step is refused until the previous one is complete.

From donor to units

  1. Open Blood Bank → Donors. Add the donor with Name, Donor Number, Facility, Birth Date, Sex and Donor Consent Signed. Check Eligible Now.
  2. Open Donations and select New. Choose the Donor and Donation Type (for a directed donation, the named patient is required).
  3. Record the pre-donation screening: haemoglobin, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature and the health questionnaire. Select Pass Screening. If screening fails, select Defer Donor instead.
  4. Enter the Volume Ml and select Record Collection. The volume must be plausible.
  5. Select Send to Testing. Enter the ABO and Rh determinations twice, by two different people, and the screening test results. Select Apply Test Outcome.
  6. A second person selects Verify on the result.
  7. Select Process into Components. The donation becomes units in inventory, in quarantine.
