Pharmacy Manager.Explain the hierarchy in simple terms:
- Ingredient: the active medicine substance, for example paracetamol.
- Formulation: the approved combination, strength, and dosage form.
- Formulary item: the approved link between a saleable product and its formulation, including prescription, controlled-medicine, substitution, and effective-date rules.
Steps
- Maintain ingredients, routes, and frequencies from the pharmacy configuration area.
- Create a formulation in draft and add its ingredient lines and strengths.
- Approve the formulation when it has passed pharmacy governance; retire it rather than silently changing an approved version.
- Create the formulary item for the product, set the effective period and the local dispensing rules, then approve it.
- Use New Revision when an approved formulary item needs a controlled change.
