Record ward and inpatient medicine consumption

Available to

Pharmacy Professional, Medical Storekeeper, authorised Ward Storekeeper, Nurse, and Finance or Revenue Cycle user where assigned.

This page makes the safety boundary explicit. There are two very different forms of consumption:

  • Patient-specific medicine issue: use the Ventrecs prescription and pharmacy-dispensing workflow. It preserves the patient, authorisation, medicine, quantity, lot where required, dispensing event, and return path.
  • Department or ward stock consumption: use the customer-approved internal stock-consumption, replenishment, or cost-allocation workflow for bulk consumables or floor stock. It preserves custody and cost, but is not automatically a medication-administration record.

Steps for patient-specific issue

  1. Verify the prescription and complete dispensing using the approved pharmacy workflow.
  2. Capture the required product, quantity, lot or serial, source location, and witness evidence where applicable.
  3. Complete stock validation before posting the dispensing event.
  4. Use the approved return workflow for unused medicine. Do not reverse a patient issue through an unrelated warehouse adjustment.

Steps for ward or department consumption

  1. Request or transfer the approved floor stock to the correct ward or department location.
  2. Record bulk consumption, stock depletion, or periodic issue through the approved local operation and cost allocation.
  3. Count and reconcile high-risk or controlled stock under the department’s custody policy.
  4. Send any patient-specific medication issue, discrepancy, adverse event, or controlled-medicine concern to the applicable pharmacy or clinical safety workflow.
