Design medical storage locations and controlled zones

Available to

Medical Storekeeper, Quality or Cold-Chain Lead, Pharmacy Manager, and authorised Warehouse Manager.

Use locations to represent real custody and condition. A healthcare deployment commonly separates central medical store, pharmacy, ward or department stores, laboratory reagent store, imaging consumable store, controlled-drug safe, receiving, quality-hold or quarantine, returns assessment, damaged or expired stock, cold room, refrigerator, freezer, and authorised disposal areas.

Steps

  1. Map each physical area to one controlled stock location and assign a named operational owner.
  2. Define which operations may move stock into and out of each area, including transfer, dispensing, return, adjustment, and disposal.
  3. Clearly segregate unavailable states: receiving pending inspection, quarantine, damaged, expired, recalled, returned pending assessment, and disposal.
  4. Record the approved temperature range, handling conditions, access restrictions, and monitoring method for a cold-storage location in the controlled local procedure.
  5. Test a de-identified stock movement to confirm that users cannot bypass the intended location and approval route.
