Choose the label size for a medicine

Available to

Pharmacy managers.

Every medicine has a Label Size, and the Print Label button on a dispensing event or an eMAR administration prints the design for that size. The size starts from the dosage form. A manager can change it, because a small pack of a tablet and a big pack of the same tablet need different labels, and so do a bottle and an infusion.

Set the label size

  1. Open Pharmacy → Configuration → Medicines and find the medicine.
  2. Choose its Label Size in the row. The same field is on the product, on the HIS Pharmacy tab.
  3. Select Save.
  4. To print, open the dispensing event of the sale and select Print Label.

Good to know

  • Items that need different designs are printed in separate goes. Select the ones of one size.
  • On the ward, Print Label on an eMAR administration opens the IV bag or the syringe label from the medicine's size. An injection with no ward size prints the syringe label, anything else the infusion label.
  • A counter sale of an IV bag or syringe size prints the largest dispensing label, because those two designs belong to the ward.
  • The four dispensing buttons stay for printing a different size on purpose. The high-alert label is not a size: it is printed in addition for a controlled medicine.
  • Labels for a Zebra printer need nothing extra. The PDF labels show a Data Matrix code when the server has the library for it, and a QR code with the same reference when it has not.
