Set up the healthcare financial structure

Available to

Finance Officer and authorised finance administrator.

What this task does

Establishes the financial structure used to report a healthcare provider's revenue, costs, taxes, cash, and outstanding balances without exposing clinical data unnecessarily.

Steps

  1. Confirm the legal entity, branch, accounting currency, fiscal localisation, tax registration, and chart of accounts approved by the organisation and its advisers.
  2. Configure journals and approved payment methods for patient billing, pharmacy POS, bank, cash, supplier bills, payroll, and adjustments as applicable.
  3. Define the approved reporting dimensions, for example facility, department, cost centre, service line, or project. Avoid using a patient identifier as a reporting dimension.
  4. Maintain approved products and services with the correct revenue, cost, tax, and valuation treatment. Keep clinical medicine formulation and stock control separate from the accounting rule.
  5. Set controlled customer terms, credit limits, fiscal positions, and escalation ownership for corporate and payer accounts.
  6. Test a de-identified service invoice, retail sale, supplier bill, payment, and reversal in the customer’s finance acceptance environment before go-live.
