Understand the healthcare financial workflow

Explain the finance journey in terms a healthcare provider recognises. Financial follow-up begins only from an approved commercial or operational event. It must never change the clinical record or be used to infer a clinical decision.

Approved service, pharmacy sale, or agreed charge → Customer or payer invoice →
Payment, credit note, or approved dispute follow-up → Reconciliation → Receivable, revenue, and period reporting

Describe the three common routes:

  • Direct patient or retail sale: payment is taken at the pharmacy POS or approved cashier route; an invoice or receipt is issued when configured.
  • Credit customer or corporate account: an authorised charge is invoiced to the contracted organisation under its approved commercial terms.
  • Insurer or third-party payer: the finance team records the customer or payer relationship approved for that deployment. Eligibility, pre-authorisation, claims transmission, adjudication, and remittance processing are separate deployment-specific workflows; do not imply that creating an invoice submits a claim.
