Choose the right wristband or specimen label

Explain the two supported label families:

  • Patient wristband: identity label for an approved patient context.
  • Laboratory specimen label: label for a specific specimen and its related laboratory order.

Show the safety rule: the label is an output of verified patient and specimen information. It is not a substitute for checking identity at the point of care or collection.

The wristband includes the patient name, patient number, date of birth, sex, registration facility, and a barcode of the patient number. The specimen label includes patient name and number, ordered test or panel, specimen type, laboratory accession number, and a barcode of the specimen ID.
