Inpatient and Perioperative Care

Admit, transfer, and discharge a patient

Available to

Nurse, Registration Officer, and authorised clinical users.

Steps

  1. Open the patient encounter and confirm it is the correct inpatient or eligible encounter type.
  2. Select the approved admission action and choose the appropriate ward, room, and available bed.
  3. To move the patient, use the transfer action rather than editing the previous placement directly.
  4. Record the new destination, effective time, and reason where required.
  5. When care ends, use the discharge action to end occupancy and update the encounter according to local policy. The former bed becomes Cleaning until an authorised user marks it available again.

What happens next

The movement history remains attached to the encounter and the bed availability is updated for operational use.
